Conor McGregor announces retirement
Man of the moment, Conor McGregor has just announced his retirement from
MMA but what was his reason behind it!?
“I’ve decided to retire young.
Thanks for the cheese.
Catch ya’s later.”
(Conor McGregor Twitter Message)
It was announced today that Conor McGregor is officially out of UFC 200 and
will not be fighting Nate Diaz due to him not turning up for a press
conference in the states as he was training in Iceland. It’s not the first
time a fighter has come under fire for missing a press conference. In 2011
Nick Diaz was pulled from his fight against George St. Pierre for failing
to turn up to a live press conference to promote his fight but is this a
little extreme?
I understand their contractual press conferences playing a piece in their
busy schedules but is training not just as important!? And since it was
announced that the featherweight champion of the world would not be facing
a rematch against Nate Diaz, Conor McGregor has taken to social media to
announce his retirement from MMA. So was the pull from the main event at
UFC 200 a factor in his retirement?
Rumours are awash about McGregor and his reasons for retirement. One such
rumour has been discussing the prospect that he hasn’t been paid what he
has been promised and so is making a stand against this. Whatever the
reason, Dana White states there is no bad blood between them and he will
welcome him back into UFC/MMA whenever he’s ready. Perhaps the champ is
just causing another media frenzy or maybe he is taking a break while he
anticipates his next move. Whatever the reason, we know Conor will come out
the winner and we hope he comes out of “retirement” to give us one last
look at his 13 second punch!
