Does A Forklift Licence Expire?
In theory, a forklift licence does not exist but there are some rules and regulations that you should adhere to.
Once you have booked one of our training courses, completed the forklift theory test and practical assessment, your company will receive your certificate of training. We recommend that you update this certificate at least once every three years but that is down to your company. We advise this as if you have any accidents, which are normally down to human error and bad habits that have been accrued during use of trucks. Our forklift instructor will aim to get rid of these and keep your training fresh and up to date. Remember rules and regulations change over the years and new policies may come in.
How Often Should Forklift Refreshers Be Carried Out?
It’s very unclear as to whether your certification expires and we understand this. If you look on most health and safety publications it sets examples of 3 to 5 years between refresher courses. Most companies we deal with carry out their refreshers every 3 years. This is to make sure operators are safe competent on the lift truck. Companies should always send employees for refresher training as mentioned above and this will provide you with a new certificate, depending on type of training given.
We advise that you update your training at least every three years, however this could be more frequent if you are changing the type of truck you use, policies have changed, operations are moved either to a new location onsite or new site or risks associated with operation increase.
