Muhammad Ali RIP

On the morning of Saturday 4th June 2016, thousands of Brits and people all
over the world woke up to the devastating news that Muhammad Ali formerly
known as Cassius Clay had passed away. Ali had been ill for the last 32
years and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 1984, a disease that is
sometimes the result of head trauma from activities such as boxing.

Ali was widely regarded as one of the most significant figures in sport
in the 20th century. But it wasn’t just his sport he was noted for. In 1966
he was called up to fight in the Vietnam War, a war of epic proportions of
which he did not understand not agree with.. His titles were subsequently
stripped from him and he was arrested and found guilty of draft evasion
charges which were eventually overturned in 1971 after a lengthy appeal.
Ali went on to fight again and won his belts back with a succession of
wins. Today, Ali is still the only three time lineal world heavy weight
champion.
During an era when African-Americans appeared as second class citizens
to white, Muhammad Ali commanded attention. He wanted to open up people’s
eyes to the racism going on around us and make things equal. He didn’t care
if people thought he was a radical, he wanted to make peace in a world
where they were fighting wars they didn’t understand.
So I will leave it here with some very thought provoking quotes from the
man himself. Ali, you ARE the greatest!

Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.
He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in
life.
The man who views the world at 50 the same as he did at 20 has wasted 30
years of his life.

Hating people because of their color is wrong. And it doesn’t matter which
color does the hating. It’s just plain wrong.
Champions aren’t made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they
have deep inside them — a desire, a dream, a vision.
It’s hard to be humble, when you’re as great as I am.

Here at Keylift forklift truck training we thing the world has lost a legend. Muhammad Ali 17/1/1942-3/6/2016 Gone but not forgotten
